Sorry to hear the insertion was so bad, but at least you're feeling better today.

The string on my IUD is less than an inch long. I have to really reach to feel the string on mine. It seems strange that your doctor left yours so long, but she can always trim it. You're going to need to be careful about using tampons if it's very long since it might get tangled up.

I have no idea why you'd be bleeding like that, although I've heard of a condition where the cervix is very easily irritated, maybe that's why?

At first, my strings felt like they were right there. Then after I had sex a few times, they got pushed back, tucked up behind my cervix. I had to reach way up inside to find them. I wouldn't worry about the bleeding. I've had bleeding after getting a Pap smear. Anything that scrapes the cervix can cause some bleeding. I would worry if it didn't stop after a couple days. Good luck with your IUD. Keep your heating pad handy - it really helped me a lot.

I wouldn't worry unless there was major bleeding.I basicly spotted....I feel different lengths of my strings at different times of the month-sometimes I can barely feel the tips and then other times I can feel some of the actual "string" part....

Hi, Katie-

At first my strings felt very spikey and hard. Now, after 18 months they are a little softer and they tend to wrap around my cervix so it is hard to find them sometimes. What I do is check them while I'm in the shower. I squat down and then push a little, like I'm trying to pee. That pushes the cervix down so I can reach it better. It is normal to have a hard time finding them sometimes. And I've made two panicked calls to me nurse practitioner over the last 18 months but all was ok both times.
