hey.. I was just really hoping someone hear can help me with my problem. I used to take birth control.. Ortho tricyclen for a year .. I stopped in January and used condoms instead but me and my boyfriend liked it better when I was on the pill. I'm like a health crazy persona and am always searching online for things and usually come across some health article or something that starts to scare me. I know this is a common question but I keep reading all different things about it. I just really wanna know if there are health risks by taking the pill. I keep reading it will increase chance of getting cancer. Now I really would rather use a different form of birth control but there really isn't any as good. I was thinking the withdrawal method plus using spermicide? Yea that probably doesn't sound too safe but I duno what else to do really. Any thoughts? Sorry so long but it's making me crazy I duno waht to do. Thanks so much!!

Hi xexquisitex, welcome!

For a young, healthy, nonsmoking woman hormonal contraceptives are quite safe. There are some circumstances; for example if you have high blood pressure, Diabetes, cancer or risk of cancer in which BCPs may not be the right method for you. That’s why it’s important to choose a method after discussing your individual situation with your doctor. See this link that covers some of the plusses and minuses and who should and shouldn’t take hormonal contraceptives.
