lol sorry for the stupid question but I normally take my pill at 9 every nite- for whatever reason I forgot tonite and didn't take it til around 9:50 or so... I know it was within the same hour but is there a chance of getting pregnant if I take it an hour before or after I'm scheduled to... (I feel soo dumb right now lol)

Thanks in advance!

Hello! If I am not mistaken, it's okay to miss one pill and still not need a back up method of birth control. However, if you miss two pills in a row, this is when you need to think about another form of birth control. But whenever you do forget, take the pill as soon as you remember, even if it's around the time of the next pill. Hope this helps! :)

Hi bumblebee1982, welcome!

There is no 100% effective contraceptive method, except abstinence. However, if you have been taking your pills correctly you should be quite safe. This board considers on-time to be within a +/-2 hour window of your normal pill time. Less than an hour off your regular time you should be just fine. Thanks for posting.

Thanks so much!

I guess I'm just freaking out a little cause this is the first time I've ever used the pill as birth control. I've taken it before but if i missed a pill, i missed a pill and it was no big deal; now it's a REALLY big deal so i'm careful about it... normally i set my phone to go off.... i have to do that again lol

thanks again!

Since you are just starting to use the pill for contraception it would be a good idea to read the post "Taking your pills correctly" in the FAQs. There you will find some dos and don’ts that will help you get maximum effectiveness from your pills. Stop back by and let us know how you're doing, ok?

Take care,

And just for reference, the FDA has requested a labeling change for all birth control pills--henceforth, backup is needed for even just ONE missed pill until seven pills have been taken on time in a row. I've heard that "missed" is 8-12 hours after the designated time, up until that point you can probably consider it just late, but extra backup never hurt anybody.

For an hour or two late, I personally wouldn't worry about it! But that's me, you do what you're comfortable with!
