Ortho Try-Lo: Green vs. White Pills
| Tue, 09-21-2004 - 10:44am |
Hi everyone. I just started taking Ortho Try-Lo. This is my first time on Birth Control.
The package says to start with the white pills first. Well, I made a mistake and started with the green pills. I should take the green pills at the end of the month, according to the package. Is there a difference between the white and green pills? Should I just stop taking the pill and start a new prescription next month?

Oh Hon, there is a major difference! The white pills contain the lowest dose (first week) of hormones. The green pills are placebos, containing NO hormones and are to be taken during your hormone free week. If you began the BCPs by taking the green pills first you are not protected! If you have had sex within the last 72 hours it's not too late to use EC. See the EC site: http://ec.princeton.edu/ If I were you I'd talk with my doctor and get his or her advice. And, you should be using back-up until you reestablish your hormonal protection.
If you haven't finished the green pills you could stop them and begin the white ones immediately. You should use back up until you have taken at least 7 active pills consecutively and correctly. At the end of your 21 active pills either start a new pack of actives or go 7 days without hormones, where you would have taken the green pills. Talk with your doctor and see what s/he advises. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Hugs,
Jill
