Hi Ariane,

I'm glad your procedure went well. I would do what your doctors say. You can ask them the direct question, if "resume all normal activities" includes taking hormonal contraceptives.

Let us know what they say, ok?

Take care,

As far as I know, and remember that I have no medical training whatsoever, you're advised to discontinue pill use for medical procedures because of an increased risk of blood clots. Whenever there is an opening in the body that allows for bleeding, there is a risk for blood clots, even with something as "simple" as childbirth. Add synthetic estrogens, which can be a risk factor for blood clots, and you increase the risk of developing a blood clot related to the surgery.

Personally, if my doctor(s) advised me to wait for my next period to start back on the pill, if I knew it wasn't going to be a hella long time, I'd wait for it. But if I were anxious, I'd probably press for more detailed reasons why I should or shouldn't wait--if they're just giving me that answer because it's easy, rather than out of medical necessity, I'd like to know that. So I'm voting for a little more professional guidance!

Good luck Ariane!
