Hello,
I need some help deciding on the right type of BC for me. I first started taking BC in Feb. I have no medical insurance so I went to Planned Parenthood and they gave me the standard generic pills to take, but they made me extremely ill. I suffer from PMDD and depression already and the pills just made it worse. I was sick to my stomach all day and I got so depressed I was almost suicidal, and that was only after a week. The clinicians thought I was exagerating and told me to stick with it for the month and maybe things would level off (even though I was sobbing on the phone trying to explain what was wrong). After 2 months it was only worse and I got them to give me the pills with the lower hormone levels and I was a million times better.

But, I kept forgetting to take my pill. First just once in awhile, then for a week, then I stopped altogether. (I wasn't sexually active at the time). So now I'm considering the shot so that I won't forget my pill, but I'm worried that the hormone levels will be too high and I'll react the way I did to the first pills. As far as I've read there isn't a low dose shot.
I was wondering if anyone has had severe reactions to the shot, or have been through a similiar situation. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
~amy

Have you considered NuvaRing: http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/index.asp It has the lowest dose of hormones of any combined method in the U.S. and it is very low maintenance. Insert one ring for 3 weeks then remove for 1 for your period. Depo-Provera is a very strong progestin. It works well for some women and for others it doesn't. Depo is the only hormonal method for which the manufacturer admits weight gain can be a problem for a significant percentage of the women taking it. Depo might work well for you, but you aren't going to know how you will do on it until you try it. Let us know what you decide, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
