What would happen if you messed up on birth control one month, got pregnant but didn't know it, had a period like normal or some sort of bleeding, and then kept on going with birth control because you didn't know?

Hi madencateyes, welcome!

If a woman is on BCPs and becomes pg she should stop taking her pills as soon as she finds she is pregnant. It's my understanding that the risks are usually slight, however for more about the possible risks of continuing BCPs after becoming pg. see:

Most women, whether on the pill or not, will notice some difference in their periods when they become pregnant. Obviously the vast majority of women will stop having periods altogether, some women will have an unusually light period, and a very few women will have a couple of periods before other signs of pregnancy become apparent. It usually doesn't take too long to figure it out, the body does start to change pretty early! Even when you're on the pill, if you get pregnant, your periods should stop or get noticeably lighter.

As far as the labeling says, it would be sufficient to stop taking the pill as soon as you discovered a pregnancy. There are no known dangers to a fetus from first-trimester pill use, but you're definitely supposed to quit when you know.

Hope that helps!
