The article focuses just on the patch as being dangerous, but this isn't by any means a new problem. Birth control pills always had a very slight extra risk of death from blood clots or strokes. Any woman who has certain health conditions like high blood pressure, or smoking after the age of 35 is usually advised not to use birth control methods that contain estrogen.

Like the article says, the risks associated with the patch are similar to those associated with any hormonal birth control method. This is something that we all need to be aware of, but I don't think it is something to be overly concerned about.

I agree with kellyann!

That is why it is important for women to have a medical consult with their doctors for a review of their family history and screening before starting hormonal contraceptives.
