New spotting on old pill

Hello,
I used Necon 1/35, generic for Ortho Novum 1/35 all of last fall, winter and spring then switched to Ortho Evra in the summer. With Necon, I had no “period” from November to about April or May when I switched to Ortho Evra, which I had regular, “periods” with. I found this fairly pleasant, which is one of the reasons I switch back to this pill during fall/winter/spring.. I switched back to Necon this month and have had break through spotting from days 12 – 15 so far. I weigh about 130 now, and was 120 to 125 while using Necon earlier this year. Should the weight affect the break through bleeding, or is there something else I should look into? I know I am supposed to wait three cycles, but this is so surprising since even “periods” were non-existent last time I used this pill. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
Holly

My guess is that it's just your body adjusting to the different hormones, which, as you said, can take 2-3 cycles. Loosing weight will release estrogen that can unbalance hormones enough that it sometimes can cause irregular bleeding. I don't know if weight gain affects irregular bleeding or not. If you are really concerned you could always ask your doctor. I know it's aggravating. I hope your bleeding stops soon. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Take care,
Jill
