Vitamins/supplements affect BCP?

I know that antibiotics can make pills less effective, but according to one of the posts on this page, supplements can as well. What type of supplements does this refer to?
This may be a stupid question but do any vitamins affect them? For example, I take Biotin Azo (natural supplement not a vitamin) and wouldn't think that would have an affect but I want to make sure! I was just prescribed pills today so I'm a new user. Thanks!

I don't think over the counter multivitamins will decrease the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives. But most dietary supplements aren't required to be tested by the FDA for effectiveness and interaction with medicines so we don't know for sure which might pose a problem. However I think St. John's Wort has been shown to reduce the effectiveness of BCPs. Other supplements that might are things like diet pills. Anything that increases the metabolism is suspect as it could cause the hormones in your pills to be passed through your body too quickly. It would be a good idea to talk with your pharmacist and see what s/he says. Thanks for posting,
Good luck,
Jill
