Mirena Question re: bleeding

I've had a Mirena for over a year and a half, and for over a year haven't had a period. That's been wonderful! But last weekend, I suddenly started bleeding with no warning. For the first few days, it was light, and just in the morning. I called my Dr's office, and they said, "Well, that can happen sometimes." But it's now been a week, and tonight got heavier again. Has anyone had something like this happened? I know I'm not pregnant, but can't find anything on the web about irregular bleeding after this long. (Most websites mention it's possible for the first few months, but don't mention anything long-term.) This just stinks... :(

TIA...

I've had something kind of like that.I haven't gone that long without a period.I've had the MIRENA for over a year now and recently (a few months ago) I went 10 weeks without having a period.I,too called the drs office and they said it sometimes happens and to "wait it out and see if it gets better"....When my period came after the 10 weeks I basicly spotted (sometimes heavy spotting) for 16+ days. When I first got the IUD my periods lasted 16+ days....Since then I've been getting them every 4-6 weeks apart...still basicly spotting (sometimes heavy spotting)......If it keeps it up I would definately call the dr again. My dr said that they have had to take a few mirenas out because of bleeding problems....good luck....

Thanks for your reply. I've pretty much decided to give it a few more days to see if it stops by itself, but I'll probably give my doctor a call anyway if for no other reason than to see if I should expect more of this in the future. I just thought it odd that I couldn't find ANYTHING online about something like this. Good to hear (in some ways, anyway) that your doctor said some have had to be removed because of bleeding. I just hope I'm not one of them!

Thanks again...
