hi

i got a question about yasmin. i have been on this for about 6 months or so. and for the last couple of months when it comes time for my period im having very little bleeding.

i dont even need sanitary protection. also it is taking longer for it to come, it use to come about the 2 or 3rd day of taking the nonhormonal pills(4th wk) now it doesnt come until the 5 or 6th day. i have pms symptons because i have headaches for two weeks before. im worried something may be wrong with me because it is almost nonexistant now. hope someone can help!!

Talk to your doctor. Is this your first time on the Pill? It is very common for your periods to get much lighter or stop when you're on the Pill. PMS can get worse or better.

no, i have been on the pill for years. i had my ds one year ago and was on the mini pill for about 6 months. then my ob put me on yasmin. until recently, past two cycles everything was like usual. now i have hardly any flow, and longer pms, with many more migraines than norm. i take zomig for them but end up taking it every other day it seems. im going to call my ob/gyn this week and ask about trying seasonale. i hope that will cut out the pms, and less migraines.

It's possible that this is a normal response for your body with this particular combination of hormones. Over time taking a pill, it's possible for your body's response to change, and the hormones in your body might be such that you really don't develop much endometrium during an active pill cycle. If you don't develop much, you won't shed much, for some women that's a good thing, for other women it makes them uncomfortable to not have things feel....normal.

You say you're getting more migraines now than before? You used to just get them the week of your period? Between the migraines and your periods, I'd wonder if you need a different/less progestin. I took Loestrin 1.5/30 for about 4 years and toward the end, my periods got really light and took longer and longer to arrive. Following that, I started having some serious problems with estrogen deficiency (vaginal dryness and genital atrophy, really dry itchy skin).

I suppose Seasonale might be an option, but you might just ask for a prescription for Nordette to start out--it's the same formulation, if that's what you want, but you're only committed to a month at a time unless you want to tri-cycle it and take three packs back to back. You might also think about Mircette, it's got a little bit of estrogen for five of the seven inactive days, which is supposed to help with menstrual migraines. But definitely ask your doctor his feeling on what another good pill might be, some doctors have a clue, and then some don't, but you'll find out when you ask.

Good luck, I hope you can find a good solution!
