advice on Yasmin & pill in general

I've been on ortho cyclene for over 6 years now and just switched to Yasmin. I've noticed my moodiness and weight fluctuations on ortho cyclene so that's what caused my switch. Now that I"m on Yasmin I've noticed a slight change in my body - a bit of a "belly" and I've noticed my appetite is greater. I haven't gained weight that bad - a pound or two, but I"m wondering if this has been a big side effect for a lot of you and if so, is it mostly temporary. I know that the pill is different from everyone, but I'm ready to call my doctor and I just don't know if I'm "jumping the gun". Is there any pill that people have had a lot of success in in the weight and mood department? Thanks for your help!

Some women will respond to the progestin in particular pills with increased appetite and water retention around their waistline. The hard part is that you can't predict who's going to have that response and on which pill! Some women have that response with every pill they try, some women don't have that response on any pill, and some will only have that with certain pills, which are all different for everybody. It's the crapshoot part of trying a new pill, I'm afraid!

It's also possible that within a couple of months this will subside. You're supposed to give a new pill 2-4 months to allow your body to get used to the different hormones, so if you're only in the first month on Yasmin, you might want to give it a little more time and see if things don't improve in another month or two.

Hang in there, hopefully things will get better soon!
