NuvaRing question - 1st month

I started the NuvaRing within the 2 days my period started as suggested.....well I wanted to take it out 3 days AFTER the 3rd week....on the Friday instead of prior Tuesday. BUT I started to bleed before I took it out...which I heard in normal. Now it is Tuesday and I am supposed to insert the new Nuva on Friday.....I have stopped bleeding.

Do I WAIT to have sex until Friday? Or am I considered COVERED now? Anyone know? The ring has ONLY been out 4 days. I only had my period for a few days.

As long as you're following the directions on using the ring, you are protected for all four weeks of the cycle, even without the ring in in the last week, just like with the pill! When you're actually bleeding doesn't matter at all, just make sure you keep your ring-free interval to seven days or less and everything should be fine--you should be protected continuously.

Good luck!

Thank you. I just was not sure because it was my first month. I did use another form of protection for the first week. But my period was VERY light this month....so I worried. I kept my first ring in 3 extra days to get back on track.....and will only keep it out the scheduled 7 days.

One more question....maybe I should start another post LOL.......I did not put my NEW ring in the fridge right away....it was out of the fridge (but in an indoor climate) for almost 20 hours.....is that bad?

No, that's not bad. It's not necessary to refrigerate your next ring if you are going to keep it at room temperature for only a few weeks. For the specifics of storage see the info. on the patient information sheet that comes with your ring or the prescribing info. on the NuvaRing site: http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/index.asp Let us know how you like the ring, ok?

Take care,
