Question for Mirena users...

Hi,

I recently had the Mirena inserted and so far I love it. My question is this...my husband says he can feel it during intercourse(and it dosen't feel good)...Has this happened to anyone else? When I feel it myself the string seems rather short so I dont know that they could trim it anymore.

Just looking for any feedback.

Thanks

Susan

My boyfriend can also feel the string (wires) and he too says it is unpleasant (painful actually).

I know my doctor said he cut the strings short, but I don't really know what to do.. I am hoping that maybe after the IUD has been in for a bit longer that the strings will move to a more comfortable position for my BF, but if not, I am going to talk to my doctor and see if anything can be done.

Let me know how it goes for you and your husband and what you do about it.

My doctor told me that he was leaving the strings on mine a little bit longer, so they come out of my cervix and kind of curl out of the way. In spite of that, my husband says he can feel the strings at times, but they don't poke him or bother him at all.

My doctor said he had heard complaints before if the strings were too short that they could poke the woman's partner which is why he tries to leave them longer. Once the strings are already too short, I've heard some doctors will trim them flush with the cervix, but that means then that the string can no longer be felt at all to check placement, and that removal is a little harder.
