Switching PILLS

OK...so I've been on MonoNessa for quite a while, and it was fine...no major side affects, except for the first week I took the pills I was VERY irritable and depressed, and I didn't like it, because it caused a lot of problems in my day to day living. So my doctor switched me to Kariva the other day, which is a lower level hormone dosage to see if that will help. Being on MonoNessa, I would take the active pills for 21 days, begin taking the inert pills, and get my period on about day 24 (Friday). I would start my next pack Wednesday (which would be yesterday). I took the first Kariva pill yesterday in place of MonoNessa, and now I'm freaking myself out about a pill change. I called my doctor to ask her some questions, but some other woman called me back and didn't really know my story and rushed me through my questions, so now I'm even more worried. I usually have unprotected sex, and when my doctor switched my pill she didnt say anything about using a back up birth control method. I'd rather not have to use one...but I'm worried about my risks if I don't. I am confused because I started Kariva on the day I would of started my next pack, but it wasn't a Sunday Start or a Day 1 start, since my period was over by then. Is it too late to take my MonoNessa again? I have a new pack I could use. I only took one Kariva pill. Please help!

As far as using back-up when switching pills, that's usually not necessary. You can read the patient information leaflet that came with your pills and see what the manufacturer says. It never hurts to use back-up. Some women use back-up for the first week when switching just for peace of mind. So, if it will make you feel better then if I were you I'd use it. Remember, it may take about 3 cycles for your body to adjust to the new hormones. Let us know how you like Kariva, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
