Bleeding on Ortho Tri-Cylen Lo....

I just started Ortho Tri-Cylen Lo 4 weeks ago this Sunday. It's the first time back on the Pill since 2001 when I stopped to try and conceive. Since then i've had two babies and for now we're done!
Anyway... after 2 weeks on this pill EXACTLY, my period came first rather light so I thought it was just spotting, then it became a medium flow period. After about 4 days I called my doctor and she said it was okay, just take the rest of the pack and when its done start the new one on schedule. My periods (including my last two which have been the first since baby #2) have ALWAYS lasted 5 days, so I thought i'd be clear by Thursday. Well it did lighten up over the weekend to where I no longer had to wear a pad, but there was still very light coloring when i wiped...and today I noticed more blood plus discharge (sorry to be graphic!) when i used the bathroom.
Can all of this be normal or should I be concerned? I kinda want to avoid a doctor's visit unless I must because my copay is so expensive and I have to pay for 30% of any labs. i've had a headache since yesterday morning with a little nausea, but I think that's part of a bug everyone's had around here...
Anyway.. thanks for any help...

I think what you are experiencing is your body adjusting to your pills. Irregular bleeding is very common when starting hormonal contraceptives and it can take 3 cycles or so for your body to adjust to the hormones in your pills and the side effects to go away. Your nausea could, as you say, be a bug going around but nausea can also be a side effect when starting BCPs. Good luck,
