I was on Alesse for 4 months and had breakthrough bleeding, so my Dr. switched me to Mircette. I took it for one cycle, and I noticed that my period started the very FIRST Sunday of the last week of pills. I thought it would take a day or two more.
So here are my questions:
1) I am going on a trip and want to avoid getting my period, so I plan on taking one additional week of active pills in lieu of my last week of inactive pills. Does anyone know if this should be successful for me, considering that I normally get my period on the first day of the first week of inactive pills?
2) Is there anyone else out there who gets their period on the first day of inactive pills? Have you successfully skipped a period by taking an extra week of pills?
3)
Does anyone notice an increase in vaginal yeast on Mircette? I have and I wonder if there is anything I can do to decrease it. It isn't really an infection, it's just more discharge than with other pills.
Thanks so much!!

thanks again!
As to whether skipping a period is going to work, you'll have to try it to find out! It may be that after a couple of months on Mircette your period won't show up quite so early--it's fairly common to have early bleeding, even during the active pills, when you're switching pills. My first month using Nuvaring I started bleeding in the middle of the third week, but every month after that has been fine. I can't go more than five weeks, though (using two rings)--we all have a different level of hormones that will keep us from bleeding. Some women can go for months without breakthrough bleeding on a certain pill, and other women can't skip periods on any pill, it all depends on your own body.
But if you have time to plan ahead, that would be best! If your trip is in a couple of months, you can always try to delay your period this month so that it's already moved by the time you need it to be moved.
Good luck! We don't have a lot of current Mircette users right now, but there may be someone out there who will say hello!

I was on Mircette for two years, and didn't notice any increase in discharge. Although, I'm now on Nuvaring, which has had many comments about increased discharge, and I haven't noticed any with that either. Maybe I'm just not a dischargy gal.
