Yasmin's side effects....
| Sat, 10-09-2004 - 11:42pm |
I'm just finishing my fourth month of Yasmin. So far I feel like I've experienced every side effect for the pill known to man (or should I say woman!) I am know experiencing more acne than I had when I was going through puberty. It's becoming very annoying and I"m thinking of going back to ortho cyclene and just dealing with the moodiness. Could I not had the moodiness from the hormones of ortho cyclene since I've been off it for a few months? Should I stick it out with Yasmin? What has anyone else experienced with Yasmin? Please advice! Thank you!!!

I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for almost two years. I got pretty moody and had headaches like the first two months (but the length of time depends on the person) but after that it was good. My body was just getting used to the hormones. I did break out a bit more during the first couple months but my skin went back to normal after that. It never seemed to get 'better' though (not that I've ever had bad skin). If you want something that works for skin try 100% Vitamin B5. Well if you are having a hard time with Yasmin and can deal with being moody maybe going back on tri-cyclen would be good for you. I think the most important thing is making sure your partner is understanding. During the first months I started the pills I was so cranky and would blow at up my bf over nothing. But he was very understanding about what I was going through so everything turned out well.
The Seasonale was much worse. I was nauseous for days and I gained 7 pounds in 2 weeks. The cysts came back and I was more miserable like that than I was on 10 months of Yasmin.
So I decided to go back to Yasmin, lost the 7 pounds, am not nauseous and since it's the winter months I'm not going to worry just yet about the 5:00 shadow and being in the sun. It helps with the cysts and all that. It DID take me a few months in the very beginning to adjust to Yasmin. I had btb and thought this wasn't for me. By the end of the 5th month it was ok and I'm glad I'm back on it again.
Hope this helps.
If you didn't like Ortho Cyclen and you're not crazy about Yasmin (it's not likely that switching back to Ortho Cyclen would be any better than it was before), you might ask your doctor about switching to something else. Acne isn't a typical side effect for Yasmin because the progestin is derived from a compound that is used to combat excessive androgens (what causes acne in some women), but that will happen sometimes. Every woman responds to each pill differently from someone else, so the most valid experience will be your own. Because Yasmin is unlike any other pill, it's possible that anything else (with the exception of Ortho Cyclen) may be suitable. See what your doctor says!
Good luck...finding the right pill isn't always easy, but when you do, it's a relief!

I know they say, the side effects of the pills will often go away within three months, but I think that the body may take a bit longer to adjust sometimes. I'm continue with the Yasmin for a few more months, giving myself about 6 months to see how things work. The first pill I was on (Loestrin) I took for a year, before I started having bothersome breakthrough bleeding.
If the moodiness of ortho cyclen, wasn't worth it, I would have to agree with others, that that pill might not be for you. There are a ton of pills out there, and there will likely be one that will work for you.
Good luck :)
