Depo Provera to Mirena

I have been using Depo Provera for over four years and have not had a cycle since July 2000. I am seriously considering switching to a Mirena IUD, and am curious if anyone out there has made the same switch. My doctor did say that cycles will be light, if they exist at all. I am wondering if it will even come back, or just stay gone (YAY!). Anyone out there have any similar experience?

Some women will see their normal periods disappear, but I think that figure is around 20%. You don't stop ovulating with Mirena like you do with Depo, the loss of periods would be due to the local action of the progestin thinning the endometrium to the point that there wouldn't be enough to shed. I think I'd consider it a nice surprise if it happened, but I wouldn't make my decision based on the possibility of my periods disappearing.

While not the ideal answer, I hope it helps!
