Am I gonna get pregnant?

Well here's the situation. I have been on the pill for two months now, and i take it every morning around 7:30. This morning I got to to work at 8 and realized that I had forgot to take my pill today. I work until 5:30 so I wont be able to take it until around that time. I am freaking out because my boyfriend and I were intimate last night and now I am worried that I could get pregnant. Is that a possibility? Should I leave work on my lunch and go home and take it or will I be ok if I take it after work?

Please Help.............

I`m not positive about the possible pregnancy thing, I`m sure one of the other women on here can clarify that. It seems to me that last night, you would have been protected by your pill yesterday - but considering that sperm can stay in a woman`s body for days, there`s always a chance. The longer you`re off taking your pill, though, the more your protection decreases. I would probably try to go home on my lunch break and take it, and use protection for the next week just in case. I think your chances of becoming pregnant from this incident are slim, though..

Hi brwnsugr21, Welcome back!

If you had been taking your pills correctly up to yesterday then you are probably ok. The reason I say that is that sperm can live for only a few hours when no fertile cervical mucus is present and if you were taking your pills correctly you should not be fertile.

Today’s pill will be at least late if not a miss, a pill taken more than 8 hours late is considered a miss. You should take the late pill as soon as you can. If you are more than 8 hours late taking it then I would use back-up for at least 7 days of correct pill use. Depending on how sensitive your body is to hormonal fluctuations, you might have some irregular bleeding because of the late pill. I think you should be ok. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Take care,

After 8 hours it's considered a miss??? I thought there was only a 2 hour window and anything after that was a miss?

Between two and eight hours late is usually considered 'late' when taking combined hormonal contraceptives and can cause side effects such as irregular bleeding. Eight or more hours late is usually considered a missed pill and might, in some cases, decrease the effectiveness of your protection. It is a very good idea to try and take your pill as close to the same time each day as possible but +/-2 hours is considered on-time.
