Are generic brands as affective as the brand names??? Do they cause any weird side affects??

My 17 yo is on OTC for irregularity and acne. She had switched to a generic version and seemed to have more btb. The gyn said that some people for unknown (to her) reasons seem to respond better to name brand stuff, so switched my DD back to OTC (NON generic). At first it seemed to help, but after a few months she began having random btb again.

So, acording to our gyn...some people react differently to the generic than to the name brand... for us the jury is still out, lol!

I'd ask your doc...

Good luck,

Sandy

Breakthrough bleeding--bleeding when you're not supposed to be

Generic pills have to have the same active ingredients as the name brand pills in the same dose (within a tolerance established by the FDA). Some women will respond differently to the generics than the name brand pills, but the doses aren't different enough to make the generic pill less effective.

I've taken a few generics over the years and haven't had any problems what so ever....and yes, they work as well for preventing pregnancy as the regular pills.....

I remember talking to my gynecologist about generic pill when I was on Mircette, and she said that all of the generics had the same active ingredients as the name brands EXCEPT for Mircette, ironically enough.
