Seasonale - i'm ballooning!

Hi All -

I searched the recent threads on seasonale and found that most of them deal with btb issues, which i guess may be something i'll have to deal with in the future! However, right now i am 4 weeks into my first packet and i am suffering different problems. I feel like i have packed on at least 10 pounds in the past month and have gone up a size in clothing. Also, for the past 5 days or so i have had a lot of breast tenderness. I was previously on ortho-tri for over ten years and never had these problems. I haven't made any other recent changes in my lifestyle that i think would cause these changes. I am just wondering if there are more people out there suffering these same side effects? (I just want to make sure it's the seasonale that's causing it before i switch back to ortho). Anyone?

I'm in my 3rd month of the first packet and I will agree about the ballooning and breast tenderness. I've watched my weight go up almost 10 lbs in the 3 months if not a bit more. And I've been trying to watch what I eat and exercise. Ok so maybe I haven't done the best job but I still think seasonale has a lot to do with it. As far as the breast tenderness, I have that too. The tenderness seems to be worse at different parts of the month for some reason, but I wish I would've tracked that a little better from the beginning. The best I can say is drink a lot of water and cut back on coffee, that seems to help me a little. I hear that the tenderness should go away after the first cycle. I'm expecting that in a little less than weeks or so.

No doubt about it, it's the Seasonale. I also had tremendous ballooning and weight gain from Seasonale. Within 2 weeks there was 7 extra pounds. I wasn't willing to stick out the 3 months and see what happened after that and stopped, allowed myself to have a period and then went back to Yasmin. I did not like Seasonale at all, the weight gain being a major contributor but I also felt like it added to acne, whereas Yasmin actually helps acne.

Hope that helps.

pretyflamingo - I am having a similar problem with Seasonale. Actually, I don't know how much I've GAINED, but I find it extremely hard to lose weight. Plus, when I take my inactives, I lose 5+ lbs by the end of the week without chaning anything...So my question is: When you went back on Yasmin, did the extra weight come off right away?

Hi Erin,

As soon as I went off the Seasonale within a week or so I felt "normal". The bloating and weight gain came off within that week. I also found it difficult to lose weight also and maybe it was my imagination but I could swear by appetite had increased as well. I'm much happier on the Yasmin and have actually lost weight. I also noticed from the Seasonale that my stomach was more like a bowling ball than ever and now it's not. But in a short time after getting of Seasonale I was fine. Hope that helps... Nicole

I am on the third month of seasonale and it is AWFUL. My appetite has significantly increased and my chest is definitely a cup size bigger. My breasts were very sore around the end of the first month and while I didn't have any BTB, I've suddenly developed it today along with bad cramps. And, yes, this was all topped off with some gorgeous acne. I am definitely going back to Yasmin.

You're not alone. I've never weighed over 100 lbs until I started Seasonale. I've gained around 10 lbs. as well. I was on continuous use with Nordette and as soon as I tried Seasonale, I started noticing greater mood swings, a total loss in sex drive, and I was constantly hungry. I tried cutting calories and was down to around 800 calories a day, plus I exercised around 3-4 times a week and still gained weight. I quit taking it. I felt miserable on so many levels. Made my husband crazy too.
