Hi, I have been on birth control pills for about 2 years and I have never missed a day.. I have heard that you can skip a period by skipping the white pills and starting on the next pack. is that right? I am going on a trip and i would like to avoid aunt flo if at all possible..lol

I have also heard that it is not healthy to skip like this.. I guess I just want to know if this is a smart idea..

Thanks for the help=)

Hi Stacey, welcome!

Skipping periods by taking the active pills in 2 or more packs back-to-back is commonly done. When done under a doctor's care it's not harmful at all. There is even a new pill, Seasonale, which is packaged in a 3 month (84/7) regimen so you only have 4 periods a year. Not all women can skip their periods and you stand a better chance of skipping successfully if you are on a monophasic pill, one that has the same dosage of hormones in every active pill. You might want to ask your doctor about skipping. Let us know what you decide, ok?

Good luck,
