Delayed start of period with Yasmin?

I just finished my first month on Yasmin (after switching from the Patch). I stopped taking the active pills on Friday night because one pill went down the drain (oops!) mid-month and I decided to end a day earlier at the end of the package instead of missing a day in the middle.

Normally, on my old pre-Patch pill, my period would start on Wednesday (with Saturday as the last active pill day). On the Patch, it started on Thursday (with Patch removal on Sunday morning). I'm figuring, by those standards, my period should have started today since Friday was my last active day. However, it still hasn't arrived!!! Is this just a normal hormonal adjustment or should I be concerned?? No, BF and I did not use backup this month, but were careful to wait until I had completed a full week on pill. Any thoughts??? Thanks.

Hi kerrie672, welcome!

It will depend on what your body decides to do with the new hormones you are taking. AF typically arrives from the 2nd through 5th hormone free day but could come sooner or later. I don't think you have cause for concern just yet. AF will probably move around a bit for the first few cycles on your new pill before she decides on a regular schedule. Let us know when she shows, ok?

Good luck,

With a new mix of hormones in your body, a change in when you start your period is to be expected. If you went no more than 7 days from your last patch to your first pill, your protection wasn't compromised, so especially with waiting a week on the new method, you should be fine.

Since you stopped your active pills a day early, are you planning to start your new pack a day early too? Remember if you go more than 7 days without hormones, you need 7 days *with* hormones to be protected again.

Thanks for the input. Especially the reminder about the "7 day rule." I was actually planning to start again on my normal 1st day (this Sunday), so that would put me at 8 days off. I will be sure to use back-up or "just say no." :-)

I really wasn't starting to panic yet, but the reassurance that it's probably just a hormonal adjustment is definitely appreciated.

I'll keep you posted on AF's arrival. :-)

As promised, just a note to follow-up.... AF has arrived. No worries. :-)

Thanks again for the info and support.
