I was just really worried about getting pregnant by just using the depo-provera shot and contraceptive foam and him cumming inside me. i just started the shot for the first time on friday, and i did get it the second day of my period like instructions said. Has it been enough time for me to be fully protected, and how well does it protect? I have always been a worry-wart and i have a hard time trusting BC. I realize that anything can happen, but I guess i just wondered what my chances are of convieving in that certain situation.

when I first started using depo provera, I had been using the mini-pill. The doctor had me continue the mini-pill for four days after the shot to make sure that the shot had kicked in properly. So given about a week you should be more than well protected by it. The shot is over 99% effective, so you would have to be really unlucky to get pregnant. Just be aware that if you start having adverse side effects that it can take your body up to 18 months to recover after your last shot.

Good luck

As I said in my reply to your other post, Depo is very effective. You are protected from the moment you get the shot if it is given during the first few days of your period. Depo Provera is 99.7% effective in preventing pregnancy - pretty much the most effective reversible form of birth control on the market. Your chances of getting pregnany are exceptionally slim, and the addition of a spermicide - although not necessary - probably increases your protection as well.

If it eases your mind, I, personally, have been on Depo for almost a year and although my boyfriend and I always "go all the way", I haven`t gotten pregnant. There are also many women on the board who have used Depo for much longer than I and have also not gotten pregnant. Pregnancy can happen but it`s rare (you only have a .3% chance). If it makes you feel better you can use a condom for a while until you get more comfortable with the idea of being protected by it.
