So here is my situation....I'm about to start my placebos in my pill pack, but that means I'll get my period on Sunday (probably AM with my luck)....I want to avoid this for a couple of reasons that don't really matter here.

Hi Kristen, welcome back!

Taking 22 tablets this month should work. If you are on a monophasic pill (one with the same dosage of hormones in each active pill) you can take any of the actives in the next pack. If you are on a triphasic pill (three different dosages of hormones, one in each of the active weeks) you will have to take one of the 3rd week pills which have the same dosage of hormones as pill 21 in your old pack. Then, if I were you I'd use the pack with only 20 active pills in it for spares in case you loose or vomit a pill. You might be ok with a 20 active pill month and then again you might not and it would mean moving your start day back again since you can not go more than 7 24-hour days without hormones and retain your protection. It's a slippery slope and if I were you I wouldn't chance it.

Or, you could skip the placebos and start the actives of the next pack right away. This doesn't always work, but you stand a better chance of skipping successfully if you're taking a monophasic. If you are on a triphasic pill you can take the 3rd week pills and have the same chance of skipping that week as if you were on a monophasic. Or, if you are on OTC you could get a pack of Ortho Cyclen (it has the same formulation in all 21 actives as OTC has in the 3rd week) and skip the entire month. Let us know what you decide, ok?

Good luck,

      Jill
