Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone else is having the same issues as me with Seasonale. I have just started my 9th week of the pills and have had break-through bleeding which I have heard is normal, but I am also experiencing major dryness during sex and bleeding after sex since I have started Seasonale. I had been taking ortho-cyclen for 5 years and never had any of these problems before. Any info would be helpful.
Thanks,

Vaginal dryness can be a problem for some women on certain pills (me, on several!). It's not likely to be something that improves over time, as your vaginal lubrication directly depends upon how the progestin and estrogen are acting in your body. If the progestin is overwhelming the estrogen, it will be very difficult to lubricate. In my case, when I take pills containing the same progestin as what's in Seasonale or any progestins that are derived from it, I have _no_ vaginal lubrication whatsoever. Not even the regular stuff that helps you move around comfortably!
Temporarily, you can use a water-based lubricant like KY Liquid or Astroglide for intercourse--that's a must to help prevent damage to your genital tissues (damage can lead to infections). If you're having trouble on a daily basis, you can use petroleum jelly, a thin coat on your external genitals ONLY IF YOU DON'T USE LATEX CONDOMS.
As far as the bleeding, on certain pills I have more of a tendency for post-coital bleeding than others. As long as you're keeping your regular appointments with your gyn and there's nothing wrong (no infections, no physical problems with the cervix or uterus), my gyn's perspective is that it's nothing to worry about. The hormones in the pill can make the cervix more sensitive to getting bumped in the night. ;)
Don't forget too--you can use another monophasic pill to get four periods a year, there's nothing magical about Seasonale! You may need to tinker with the dosage until you find one that you can do that with, but you aren't just stuck with Seasonale or nothing if you want to reduce the number of periods you have.
Good luck!
