Anyone hear of this new form of birth control called Paraguard? It's hormone free, I just wonder how safe it is and if its painful to insert.

hi mylittleangel29!

The Paragard is the copper form of IUD that is used in the United States. I had mine inserted this passed May. I'm very happy with it, since my body doesn't do well with hormones it was a fantastic choice for me.

I have never had children, so the insertion was a bit more painful then it would be for those women who have given birth. The pain wasn't too bad, and it lasted only a few seconds..and then it was over. It sometimes help to take ibuprofen before going in to have it inserted.

After insertion, I had some spotting and cramping, but other then that, nothing to complain about at all. I am so happy I decided to go with it, the best part is there are none of the side effects that I experienced while on the pill and the patch.

I recommend visiting their website www.paragard.com for more information, and of course talking it over with your doctor.

Good luck!
