Question About the Pill

HELP! When I took my pill this morning, I discovered that I'm scheduled to have my period next week .... during my vacation! I'd like to continue taking pills so I skip my period this month. How do I do this? Do I just start a new pack of pills as soon as I finish this pack and skip my sugar pills? I want to make sure I do this correctly. Thanks for your input!

You just start the actives in the next pack immediately without taking any of the placebos. Some women can skip their periods and others can't so it's not a slam dunk that it will work for you. You will stand a better chance of being able to skip if you are on a monophasic pill, one that has the same dose of hormones in each of the active pills. For a list of both monophasic and triphasic pills see: Your pills and what's in them, in the FAQs. The problem with skipping on a triphasic pill, one that has three different amount of hormones (usually changing each week) in a pack, is the drop in hormone levels between week three and week one. If you are on a triphasic you can take the third week pills from a new pack immediately after the last active pill in your old pack but that will allow you only to skip for a week. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
