Ok ladies,

I am 20 years old and i am going for my first pap smear, i am a little nervous. Currently i am on birth control from planned parenthood. My question is do you think that the gyno that is performing my test will be able to prescribe birth control for me so i dont have to get it at planned parent hood anymore?

please let me know

thanks a bunch

Your new doctor will definitely be able to, but what's wrong w/ getting it from Planned Parenthood? I used to be on OTC, and got through my doctor. It was costing me more than $30/month that way, WITH good insurance. Friends of mine have gotten their BC from Planned Parenthood and have paid a fraction of that (if anything.) It's up to you, but personally I don't see anything wrong w/ getting it from Planned Parethood...or getting all of your exams/testing done there for that matter.

i know about the price difference but i live about an hour away from planned parent hood plus my parents insurance will reimburse 100% so i think it will be worth it, i guess i will find out.

Um im a bit confused...You are on bc from PP..How did you even get any without a pap smear? Maybe i'm wrong here but any PP that i have went to you're required to get one before any pills will be issued.

when i went to planned parenthood almost a year ago, they said i just had to answer a questionair and then they could perscribe me birth control. I mean they took my weight and blood pressure, but that was it. i thought it was a little strange too.

That's not weird for Planned Parenthood. Right on their website they say they can prescribe it without a pap. They prefer you have a full exam, but they will prescribe BC without one.

Your obgyn can absolutely prescribe birth control for you.

I can completely understand why you'd be nervous, it's perfectly natural, but you should know that the gyno is a doctor who specializes in this field. They are prepared to answer any questions you might have about birth control, women's health, babies, and the list goes on.

Be prepared for not only your pap smear but also a breast exam to check for lumps. When you get to the office they will probably make you (for lack of better terms) pee in a cup to verify you aren't pregnant, make you possibly take a blood test, will weigh you, check blood pressure and etc. You should know the first day of your last period, the name of the birth control you are currently on, and, perhaps, have a list of questions or concerns you have.

Hope that answers your question.
