Pregnancy & Pills

I am just on my second pill cycle, but we have decided we want to start a family, so I now want to become pregnant. In the middle of my second pill pack, I stopped taking the pill, but started it again after missing two pills (doubling up as directed), thinking it would be better to just finish an entire cycle, then go off the pill all together. We did not use a back up method after I missed the two pills. What are the chances that I could be pregnant? Should I take a test? I have had spotting since the first day I doubled up on the pills, and it seems like it will continue right on until my normal cycle starts. Is this normal? Is this a sign of anything?

Yes, spotting after you miss a pill, one or more, is to be expected. It`s the withdrawal of the hormones that cause you to have your period on the pill-free week. Missing pills, or sometimes even being a little late on one, can often cause enough fluctations in your hormones to bring on spotting.

Your period on your pill-free week this time around will probably be a little lighter due to your spotting. There is always a possibility that you could be pregnant but it`s probably too soon to know. Usually, the earliest that a result could show up is 2 weeks from the "event of concern" as it`s sometimes called around here. (:

Good luck getting pregnant! I hope everything works out just the way you want.

Hi kleoviiphilopatr, welcome back!

Irregular bleeding is to be expected. It was brought on by the fluctuation in your hormone levels when you missed the two pills and then doubled up. You are right, the bleeding could continue to the end of your pack, or it might not. A test is usually accurate about 2 weeks after the encounter in question or after your miss your period. Let us know how you're doing, ok? Good luck TTC.

Hugs,
