Hi,

I have been trying to get information but no luck so far (could not reach my doctor!). I was on Yasmin for 9 days and was basically sick from the time I started..throwing up, constant nausea and panic attacks started for no reason. I found out tons of women have gone through this from it...so I stopped taking it and began taking my old pill again..loestrin. I continued where I left off with the yasmin and seem to feel better...I guess my question is about using a backup method of birth control..is it necessary if the two pills are the same dose of hormones?? I really wasn't sure if it was ok to do, just couldn't be on the yasmin anymore!! thanks for any help

Well, I`m not an expert but I do know that you should have probably waited to get ahold of your doctor before switching. Generally, it`s better to wait until it`s time to start your next pack before changing - changing mid-cycle can confuse your body and makes things weird.

As for Yasmin and Loestrin having the same dose of hormones, they don`t.

(From the post "Your Pills and What`s In Them" in the FAQ)

Yasmin: 3mg drospirenone, 30mcg EE

Loestrin 1.5/30: 1.5mg NEA, 30mcg EE

Loestrin 1/20: 1mg NEA, 20mcg EE

NEA (norethindrone acetate) and dospirenone are different types of progestins. Depending on which type of Loestrin you`re using, either 1.5/30 or 1/20, you could be taking in a different amount of estrogen, too.

If I were you, I would go ahead and try to get ahold of my doctor and see what he/she has to say about this. Since you already decided to make the switch on your own, there`s nothing he/she can really do about that, but they may be able to advise you on possible side effects from making the switch or you two can work together to find a new pill for you.

Hi movitch1, welcome!

If you were sick for the time you were on Yasmin then If I were you I’d definitely use back-up for at least the first week you are back on your old pill. If you vomited within 2 hours after taking Yasmin (or any pill) that is considered a missed pill. I hope you're feeling better soon. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck,
