weird period question

I've never posted here, so I hope I make sense. I have been on Sprintec (generic for Ortho Cyclen) for about 9 months now. Last month, on the 3rd week off pills, I took the pill from the pack and went to get water to swallow it. My phone rang, and about an hour later, I couldn't remember if I took the pill or laid it down.... yikes! So, since I couldn't remember, I took the another pill. (The last one in my pack). I never found the original pill, so I'm about 99% sure I took two pills. A week later, as I was taking the placebo pills, I started my regular period about 3 days late. It was an extremely heavy period, lasting for 7 days instead of the normal 5. Once it began to end, I was off for about 1 day, then I started spotting again. I have now spotted (one small brown clot and discharge, just enough for a pantyliner once or twice a day) for 2 weeks, and am having cramps like I'm going to start AGAIN! I called my nurse, and she said it's probably ok, but I shouldn't be starting again until next week. Has anyone ever had this happen before? I'm sorta freaking out because my best friend was like...You're pregnant! I missed no pills, if nothing, I took two one day. The nurse seemed to think it may take until a new pack of pills to stop this, but I'm still a little worried. Can anyone help?

OK... so last cycle you took the last 2 active pills together (you think) and ended your actives a day early, right? If you ended your actives a day early did you begin the actives in your new pack a day early, (you should have) so you would be no more than 7 24-hour days without hormones? It's very important that you go no more than 7 24-hour days without hormones or your body could begin the ovulation process. The last active pill in the old pack and first active pill in the new are very important to take on time as they determine the length of your hormone free interval. If you did go more than 7 days then you should have used back-up for at least a week until your protection was reestablished. Bleeding isn't usually a sign of pregnancy. It may just be that the fluctuation in your hormone levels, different from what your body has come to expect, has caused the irregular bleeding. Other things that sometimes cause bleeding are loosing weight (burning fat releases estrogen, sometimes enough to make a difference) and large doses of vitamin C, more than 1,000mg. If it's not these then bleeding might continue until you begin your new pack. If Aunt Flow doesn't show up at her regular time you might want to test and see where you are. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
