Help with when to start again (???)

I take Loestrin FE 1.5. A couple weeks ago I started a five day fasting/cleansing program (Master Cleanse). One the third week of my pill cycle, I began my period a week early (Sunday). I continued to take my pills up to Tuesday but still bled. I stopped on Tuesday and had a heavier than usual period. I am supposed to start the placebo pills today but my period is pretty much over. My question is, should I start my new pill pack today (my placebo week) or wait seven days after I stopped the last one or start again NEXT Sunday?

Thanks for ANY help! (I"m so confused!)

Hi seaweede2004, welcome!

If I were you I'd start my new pack now rather than take the placebo pills since you should go no more than 7 24-hour days without hormones in order to retain your protection. You probably bled because of the drastic change in your diet during your fasting/cleansing program. Thanks for posting.

Take care,

Thanks for the advice! Will cleansing affect the potency of my birth control?

I think I'd err on the side of caution here...it's a chemical cleanse, right? Not just a diet change? If it were just a dietary change like removing meats and grains and other acid-residue foods from your diet, that'd be one thing, but if you're getting assistance from a chemical or herbal substance, you might just want to use backup to be on the safe side. You know that the stability of your uterus was affected, but you won't know if the ovulation control might have been affected at the same time.

If it's a detox with assistance, you might want to use backup until you've been off of the chemical/herbs for about a week. It might be overkill and more cautious, but in the event that it wouldn't be....

Good luck!
