I need a bit more information here. Are you asking about the pills effectiveness when starting it, its effectiveness while you are on it or when you can expect to pre-pill 'normal' when stopping them? Anyway, I’ll give it a shot…
The pill can be effective immediately if begun on the first day of your period. If begun on the first Sunday after your period starts it is effective after seven days of taking your pills correctly. However, this board recommends using back-up for the entire first cycle as you are learning to take your pills correctly. Once you have taken the first 21 active pills correctly you will be protected for the 7 days of your placebo week. If you go more than 7 24-hour days without hormones you loose your protection and should use back-up until you have taken 7 consecutive active pills correctly.
If your concern is when will I feel normal again after stopping hormones, then the answer is that it will depend on your body. When I stopped OTC 2 years ago I felt wonderful, like my old self again, in a bit more than a week. Some women can take several weeks to rid themselves of the side effects of coming off hormones. If you are looking for information about how to get the most from your pills read the post ‘Taking your pills correctly’ in the FAQs. Is this what you are looking for?
