Going for a BC consult tonight

A few weeks ago I posted on here asking about Depo. My dr gave my a rx. for it. She did tell me some of the side effects but after researching it, I have decided I don't want to take my chances. I think there are other options I would be willing to try first. I am going to bring up NuvaRing and IUD tonight when I go to see here. I am 28, married with no kids. I'm thinking the more I read about the IUD, the better I like it. I am HORRIBLE at taking a pill. I was on the patch but had some side effects and the dr recommended I not stay on it. I know that the IUD has to be inserted by a physician, I was wondering how long the whole process took. I also know that you have to check the string every so often which I wouldn't have a problem doing. But is that all you have to do? If that is the case, then I think this may be the birth control for me. Has anyone experienced any side effects with IUD? I have only read that heavier and longer periods are possible which I am willing to go through if everything else is as simple as it sounds. Any feedback on NuvaRing would be great too.

On another note, I visit this board often, but don't post much. I find this board to be VERY supportive and VERY informative. I just wanted to let the CL's and everyone else know that this is a great board! I have learned a lot from visiting and really appreciate all the help! Good work and keep it up :)

I just got a copper IUD on Monday afternoon. It was so easy...and virtually painless for me. It was done by the doc in a regular exam room taking not much longer than a pap exam. Part of me wants to ask why I did not do this before (our last 2 kiddos were basically unplanned)...but I know God has a plan and I am happy with my life. I know it very well may have heavy periods and/or cramping with my next few periods...I can do that. I do know that a FEW women have these symptoms continue past a few months and I will make decisions to deal with that if it arises. I have tried 3 or 4 kinds of pills over the last 25+ years and everytime I had depression and such issues with them. I just tried one last time on them this year...same story... I cannot (will not) do any type of hormones, they "ruin" my life.

Right now I am totally thrilled with this IUD thing...best wishes whatever you choose:)

Sandy

ps. The ring and patch were not viable things for me to try because of my weight.

How'd it go? I've been using the ring for about two years now and I'm a big fan. Not everybody is a big fan, but that's to be expected with anything, really!

Are you any closer to a decision?
