Douching to get rid of spotting?

For the past 2 months I've been spotting the week before my period begins. I'm on Orthotricyclen Lo and I think I may need to switch brands. I'm supposed to get my period this Sunday, and have plans this Friday (hotel room with BF). Has anyone tried to douche to get rid of spotting (temporarily) and does it work?

Hi karenpa47, welcome!

Personally, I wouldn't douche since it can change the vaginal ph but you could give it a try. If you have something planned for Friday evening you might consider using Instead, http://www.softcup.com/ a menstrual cup that catches your flow. You can have IC while wearing Instead which works quite well for some women. Instead cups can be found with the feminine hygiene supplies in most pharmacies. If you try Instead let us know how you like it ok?

Good luck,

I'm not a regular poster on this board, just had to add my thoughts.

I wouldn't douche at all, the few times I have I ended up with a HORRIBLE Y.I. Most doctors don't recommend douching at all ever. But since they are readily available, I'm sure *some* women use them to some degree of satisfaction, so I guess use them at your own risk.

The Instead cup is a good idea, however I've used The Keeper for a couple of months now and much prefer it to Instead. This is a bell-shaped cup (there are other brands, the Diva Cup is another I can think of) which I find much easier and WAY less messy to use. It depends on your comfort of disposal. The Instead cup you remove and throw away (which some women prefer), the Keeper you dump out and replace.. supposed to last for as long as 10 years with proper care. You can swim with the bell cups, but cannot have IC, so that may be a big difference for you. I think you can only order The Keeper online www.thekeeper.com but the Diva Cup has a store locator www.thedivacup.com

I'm sure its probably your low level of hormone causing the spotting. Personally I would just wear pantiliners until I could talk the dr into switching my prescription. HTH

Thank you so much girls...I had no idea these things existed. I'm definitely going to try them, and I'll post back on Monday with results! And I talked to my doctor at lunch time today and he is switching me to a mono phase pill. Thanks again!
