Freaking out right now!!

I'm an 18 year old male with a very important problem. My girlfriend and I had sex nearly two months ago with her being on the pill regularly and me using a latex condom. She called today to tell me that she hasn't had a period in two months I believe. She switched birth control pills a week after us having intercourse. Is that the answer or is she pregnant? I am very distraught right now and I would like your help. Thanks.

Changing birth control pills can cause changes in when a woman has a period. Other things can be involved as well, like stress.

I`m sorry, but the best advice that I can give you, though - the only way you can be certain is for her to take a pregnancy test. Skipping a period for one month is usually nothing to fret about but two months is usually a sign that something is going on.

Sorry that I can`t be more helpful!

The most simple thing to do would be for her to take a home pregnancy test. If she was taking the pill properly, then it would be extremely unlikely for her to have gotten pregnant, especially if you were also using the condom and it didn't break or anything. There are lots of reasons she could have missed her period, and sometimes they simply don't happen on the pill. But you won't know for sure until she takes a test to find out.

I agree with the other women--she needs to take a pregnancy test and/or talk to her doctor about why she's missed two periods. It does happen sometime.

For your own protection, though, you should remember that YOUR only means of keeping yourself from being a father unexpectedly at any time in your life is to keep wearing a condom. I know a lot of guys, my fiance included, that leave the birth control to the woman in the relationship, and that leaves them vulnerable to any pill-taking mistakes we might make. But if they'd keep wearing condoms, then they know that they're doing as much as they can to avoid pregnancy and if we goof up....they're not financially responsible because there's still no baby.

Good luck! Condoms are a very effective method of birth control if they're used correctly!
