Hello, ladies! I've posted here earlier in the week but I thought I'd explain myself a little better. I'm sorry if its a little off the BC pill topic, but I'm posting this here because I think the pill has something to do with it.

Ok, I am about to give up. I just turned 30 in October, over the past 2 years I gained about 17 pounds and I am so dissapointed because my favorite clothes are either fitting tight or not fitting at all. I went on the BC pill when I was 28 and this is when all of my woes began. I then went off of it and lost about 5 pounds (but it took months and months). Then I went back on it for about a month and then went right off of it because I just can't deal with the side effects (gained 5 pounds). Could the hormones in the pill have totally messed up my system permanately? Anyway, I notice alot of my gain is in my lower stomach area and it seems puffy. I am in my sister's wedding next year and I figure if I get serious now, I'll have plenty of time to get in shape.

On Monday, I started eating 2 eggs for breakfast, lunch was a small salad or a piece of pizza and dinner was chicken or meat (cooked on the George Forman grill) and a veggie. I also rode the exercise bike once for about 20 min. this week and did my pilates tape one night. I got on the scale this morning, and not one pound came off. I actually think I may have gained 2! Ok, I haven't been totally faithful because I've been picking on M&M's and a few small other things, but it hasn't been alot. I basically keep a journal of what I eat in my head each day. Could my age be the problem now or do I need to work harder? I'm also wondering if I am just one of those people who actually gains weight by eating 3 meals a day as opposed to looseing weight. Is that possible? Or, can this be all a result of the pill from when I was on it, anyone else experiancing this? Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Hi hon...

Noooo... don't give up! It's definitely harder for most of us to keep weight off as we age since our metabolisms slow down. I think BCPs can cause weight gain in some women though the link has not been proven except in the case of Depo. If you want to get serious about weight loss then toss the M&Ms! I know Halloween candy is bad news... a huge temptation! I sent my leftovers to the office with DF. As far as food, it may be that you have to not only watch the amount and cut the carbs, but increase your exercise as well. If you can't manage to loose weight by yourself it may be that you will need to consult a Nutritionist. If you are no longer on hormonal contraceptives then be sure to use another effective form of contraception. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck,

Hi Jill! thanks so much for your advice. I almost sometimes think that I have a thyroid condition now from the pill (although I don't know if that can happen or not). I would have to check with my doc on that one. I will toss out those M&M's!! I didn't think they would hurt, but I guess the handfills are adding up! I also had about 2 glasses of wine this past week and a couple slivers of pumpkin pie (not big pieces though). I do walk for an hour on my lunch hour, but I have a feeling that my body is used to that so now I need to add more exercise into my routine. I used to do the Firm tapes, but I slacked a little. Sorry to ramble on, I am just getting frustrated with the scale! haha!
