Yasmin--why preferably taken at bedtime?

I'm switching to Yasmin at my doctor's recommendations this week after six months of ortho tricyclen lo.

I was reading the insert, which says "It is recommended that Yasmin be taken at the same time each day, preferably after the evening meal or at bedtime."

I was wondering if anyone knows why it recommends that time?

I've been taking my otc-lo at 2:00 pm, which has worked well for me--is there any reason for me to switch to after the evening meal/bedtime for Yasmin?

I don't think it matters when you take it, I think they are just wanting you to take it at the same time everyday, so the times they listed are just suggestions. I take Yasmin, and I take mine right before I go to bed because it makes me nauseous (I just started taking it Monday), and that seems to help some. Since I started taking it though, I start getting bad stomach pains and nausea if I don't eat soon after I get hungry. You might not have these problems with it though, since every woman is different. Good luck with it and let me know what side effects, if any, you develop. Thanks!

I just switched from Yasmin to Kariva (generic Mircette) due to the depression it gave me. I was on it for 2 months and was very sad and depressed all the time. It was weird. It started maybe a week or so into my first pack. I thought it would go away so I went through another pack of it but it didn't. It's weird because anything anyone said to me I took really personal. I've read good and bad things on the message boards about it (including more people w/the side effect that I had) and I thought I'd give you guys my two cents on it. Other than that, I didn't notice much of a difference. My periods were really light and I'd lost the weight/bloating the one before it (Seasonale) gave me. Good luck guys!!!

I'm on Yasmin and have been for some time now (my son is now 3 yrs and 3 months old) I have to take mine at nite b/c all the one's that I was on in the past made me sick everytime I took them in the morning.

Hi Cathy, Welcome!

Have you considered trying NuvaRing? The site is: http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/index.asp NuvaRing is a flexible ring worn in the vagina for three weeks and removed for one for your period. It continuously releases a small amount of hormones and has the lowest dose of estrogen of any method available in the U.S. It can be worn continuously for four weeks without decreasing your protection which is very nice if you need to reschedule your period. A lot of members seem to like it. I hope you find an effective method that works well for you. Let us know what you decide, ok?

Good luck,

      Jill
