Newbie needing advice!

Hello everyone!

First of all I want to say that I visit this board often, without posting, and I think you guys are wonderful! So much great advice here!

So here's my problem. I began taking Mircette in April. The first month was great, no side effects at all. But then the second month I started my period with two days left of my active pills, and the third month I started at the beginning of my 3rd week of actives, so my dr. changed me to Ovcon 35. BIG MISTAKE!! My first month was pretty normal, with a little spotting, if you could even call it that. But the 2nd and 3rd months were horrible!!I would begin bleeding on the sunday of my 2nd week of pills and bleed all the way through the placebos. And not just spotting, it was worse than my AF! I also was extremely moody, gained about 10 pounds, and very sore breasts.

So, now a new dr. (i moved away in june) has put me on ortho tricyclen. Not too bad, just still some spotting beginning on the sunday of my 3rd week of actives. I've been on OTC for 3 cycles now, and I am going to wait it out one more before I call my dr.

If the bleeding doesn't quit next cycle, what should I do? I want to stay on a pill, not the ring or patch, so should I just stick with OTC for a while? I like it in terms of side effects (besides bleeding), it has corrected all the horrible ones from ovcon (even lost the weight!!) Or, do you guys know of a pill I could try that might be better? Any suggestions?

Sorry this is so long winded, and thanks so much for the advice in advance!

Howdy! I agree...with late-cycle bleeding, going from Mircette to Ovcon would not have been my first choice--it's got less progestin and more estrogen, which usually doesn't help late cycle bleeding! It's a little surprising that Ortho Tri Cyclen is better because it's basically the same (less progestin, more estrogen), but if it almost works... You might ask your doctor about OTC Lo. It's the same formulation as OTC, but it has less estrogen, which sometimes helps breakthrough bleeding. If you only want a little change, Ortho Cyclen is exactly the same as the week 3 pills of OTC for all 21 active days, that would be just a little more progestin earlier in your cycle. Or see what your doctor thinks would be a good move!

Good luck, I hope you can find something that works well for you!

Thanks Judie, I really appreciate your advice. But, I feel like I am about to throw in the towel. I just don't know if I can handle this bleeding one more month. I am on my 3rd week of actives in my 3rd cycle, and there it is again, that awful bleeding again. This time it started off light and progressively has gotten worse. Do you think I should wait one more month or go ahead and call my doctor and get my pill switched? I'm just so tired of this. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Ashley

I would call your Dr and see what they recommend. How were your periods before you went on the pill?

Hey,

I'm new to the this place, but I was put on Yasmin 28 over a year ago and I have never experienced any spotting with it. It controls cramps really well(which is why I was put on it in the first place), and if anything, i would maybe ask your doctor about it. Just trying to let you know what works for me so that maybe your problems can subside.
