need to try something new

I am talking to my Dr today about switching AGAIN. Thank god she is willing to find a pill that is right for me.

I began with Yasmin. Aside from the 3 days of mania a month, that one is my fave. My insurance has changed and no longer covers it.

I was switched to Lo-ovral, a family tradition. I cried alot, alot, thought I was losing it.

My Dr put me on Ortho Novum777. I get the mania I experienced with Yasmin (which is tolerable since I identified the source) except I am eating ALL THE TIME, stuff I dont normally eat. I gained weight and my face has this acne that is more under the skin- its just bad.

So before calling and requesting a new one, I came here and I know everyone is different, but I figured maybe someone has some experience to share about what worked for them.

Yasmin HELPED my weight, made me a little "emotional"

Lo-ovral made me "VERY EMOTIONAL"

777 made my butt and skin BLOW UP

I basically would like to stay away from anything that generally seems to cause weight gain and acne (of course!)

ANYTHING anyone has to share...I'm all ears!

Okay, since my dr has been unavailable, the nurse actually suggested that I call the Pharmacist to assist in finding a replacement and then they'd call it in. I'm a little disappointed about that.

I am going to try Aviane.

Does anyone have anything to say about their experience with this one?

I'll let you all know how it goes for me, someone may find it helpful.

Hi ashprejean, welcome!

I'm sorry you are having trouble finding a hormonal method you like. I wear a cervicval cap now, and love it, but if I was to start hormones again I would try NuvaRing first. NuvaRing http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/index.asp is a flexible ring worn in the vagina for three weeks and removed for one for your period. NuvaRing continuously releases a small amount of hormones and has the lowest dose of estrogen (15mcg) of any method available in the U.S. It can be worn continuously for four weeks without decreasing your protection which is very nice if you need to reschedule your period. It’s not for everyone but a lot of members seem to like it. I hope you find a method that works well for you. Let us know what you choose, ok?

Good luck,

Thank you so much for the input! I need to research NuvaRing more. If I learn more about it, perhaps I can get over being a bit intimidated by having to "wear" something. But I am pretty determined to find somthing.

I spoke with my Dr's nurse who suggested the LOESTRIN 1/20. I'm going to give this a shot. I'll give it a good 4 months trial period, during which I will be researching the next pill to try, in case things dont go well. I will look into "the ring" as I have recently been forgetful about swallowing a pill and that 15mcg seems appealing right about now.

I hate that I'm so concerned about weight gain, but mixed with emotional changes, that is critical to me. By the way, by weight gain, I mean an extreme appetite change and general gain. I exercise regularly and have not changed any of my habits before noticing my gain.

So now, I'm asking for more input on experiences with NuvaRing, Loestrin 1/20, and whatever else someone had success with.

Hi! I'm on Yasmin now, but before that I was on Estrostep FE, which I loved. I didn't have any side effects from it at all. I only got off of it because I started having breakthrough bleeding with it (I have that with all the pills I've tried-Yasmin is the seventh pill I've tried) and because I heard that Yasmin helps with water weight gain. Estrostep didn't make me nauseous and my periods were very light. I've also heard that Mircette and Alesse are good pills. Good luck!

I used Loestrin 1.5/30 for about four years and I've been using Nuvaring for 2. The ring is my hands-down favorite for the ease of use and the super low dose of both hormones. I didn't have problems with Loestrin early on, but as time went by I started to have more and more problems with the high level of progestin. It's not a strong progestin, there's just a lot of it (certain strong progestins give me different kinds of problems).

On the good side, I didn't have much in the way of acne, I didn't have weight gain, and I didn't have any bleeding or appetite problems.

Everybody responds differently to each pill, but hopefully your next try will be a success!
