Skipping a Month - Starting New Pill Pac

Have you ever skipped the last week of your bc pills and started a new pack so that you could skip your period that month? Did it work? I am taking only 2 pill colors (the hormones for 3 weeks and the non-hormones for a week). So after the 3 weeks of hormones, I started a new pack again, skipping that last week. I know people who haev done this and it has worked, but I still feel like I"m going to start.

Has anyoen done this? does it really work?

Hi starfire01, welcome!

A lot of women skip their periods successfully by taking the active pills in 2 or three packs consecutively without the placebos. There is even a pill, Seasonale, which is packaged in an 84/7 regimen so women taking it have only 4 periods a year. Not all women can skip their periods successfully but many can. A monophasic pill, one that has the same dose of hormones in all active pills, (like yours) is easier to skip on than a phasic pill that has several different doses of hormones over the 3 weeks of actives. I hope that you are successful in skipping. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck,

That's how you do it! Now you get to wait and see if it works for you on this particular pill. I can't skip periods like that using Nuvaring. I can go an extra week and a half before I start bleeding. It doesn't mean anything bad, it's just inconvenient!

You also have the option of just taking one extra week of active pills from a spare pack to add a week to your pill cycle, then you'd do the inactives as normal, so there'd be 4 weeks of hormones and one without.

I hope it works! But be prepared in case it doesn't.....
