I am going to my ob/gyn in a week or two and will be discussing bc options. It has been years since I've been on the pill, and although I've been on many different pills, this Yasmin is new to me. Is it just another pill or is there some profound difference? Any info or http links would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi rvrcitygrl, welcome back!

The Yasmin site is: http://www.yasmin-us.com/ Yasmin has a unique progestin that has diuretic properties that help reduce water retention. Since Yasmin is relatively new it is the only pill with that progestin. Yasmin is like other oral contraceptives, some women love it and others hate it. How the hormones in Yasmin get along with your unique body chemistry will determine how well it will work for you. There are a lot of members who use or have used Yasmin who will be along to share their experiences. Let us know what you decide, ok?

Good luck,

My experience with Yasmin so far (I'm only on my second week) has been nausea, stomach pain, and being really tired. I've also had spotting everyday. The side effects were worse the first week, and it's starting to get better now. I was prepared for feeling like that because I had read about all the possible side effects women have experienced while taking it, but it still sucked. I'm going to stick with it and hope all those side effects go away, but if not, I think I'm going to get an IUD. Anyway, if you decide to go with Yasmin, I wish you good luck. :)

OK- I get it. Hmmmm..I'm not sure about the Progestin. I remember taking a particular brand of pills some years ago (I think it was Mircette?) that greatly aggravated my migraines...I mean, I have had them since I was in grade school, and some pills just made them more frequent than others. I think it had something to do w/ the progestin, but I can't remember. Basically, I'm just tired my AF. I bleed so heavily for 2 or 3 days that I go through a super plus tampon ever 1-1/2 hours. It's lots of fun. It also makes me very lightheaded and dizzy for a few days to bleed so heavily.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

I am sorry you haven't been feeling good littlegreek.

I am also going on my second week of Yasmin, but I actually feel better than I have in a long time. I was so worried about trying it since there are so many negative posts, but to my pleasant surprise, I have had no side effects yet. Prior to Yasmin, I was on the patch for over a year and a half. I liked the simplicity, but never truly felt like myself while taking it. I also had some mild, but unexplainable hair loss.

So I wanted to post this for those of you curious about taking Yasmin, but worried about the side effects. Everyone reacts differently, and there are a ton of people out there (like me) who feel great on it, even right off the bat!

For those that don't hang in there, because most of my friends tell me that they love it (even if they felt bad the first 1-2 months).
