Yes, you need to see a doctor before getting the ring, just as you would any birth control. You don't need a fitting, it is a 2 inch in diameter ring that you squeeze and then insert into you and push it up as far as it can go. I just started it on Sunday. I can't even feel that it's in me. It was a little awkward to get it, but I formed it into an 8 shape and then inserted it and that worked well. It has not fallen out or down for that matter yet and I have been wearing a tampon at the same time. I guess each person is different but so far I really like it. Hopefully this will be the method that will work for me! Good luck if you decide to use it.
Nuvaring is hormonal birth control like the pill and the patch, so yes you need to see a doctor to get a prescription. It is one-size-fits-most, though some women will have some discomfort or problems using it, it works well for many women. As the commercials for other hormonal birth control methods say, it's not right for everyone, that's why you need a medical exam and to go over your health history with your doctor.
Hope that helps! Feel free to come back if you have any other questions....
