Hello everyone. I have been on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for a month now. I hate it-it has made me miserable I have the worst breast tenderness among other things. Per the doctor he told me to take my last pill and stop it which meant I was only on it for a month. I know I should be on it for 3 months to let my body get used to it but my blood pressure shot through the roof. The whole month I had brown spotting and then when I stopped taking the Active Pills and took the Inactive Pills I had no period. My question is this...Will this mess me up permanently? Because I had a normal 28 day schedule without the pill and I would like to go back to that. I can't stand not having a period (I fear pregnancy when I don't have it) and not only that but I can't stand spotting for 3 weeks straight. I am afraid I have messed my body up-it is so confused. Please help.

You are right it normally takes about 3 cycles for your body to adjust to the hormones in your pill and for the annoying side effects such as breast tenderness and irregular bleeding to disappear. However, your BP shooting up is something entirely different and far more serious! Under the circumstances it's a good thing you stopped taking your pill.
Your reaction to OTC-Lo shouldn't mess you up permanently. I think you will probably be back to cycling naturally within a month. I hope you can find an effective method of contraception that will work well for you. Talk with your doctor about other methods that might work better for you. A different pill might be an option or perhaps you would be a candidate for an IUD. There is a very good post in the FAQs about IUDs. I like cervical barriers, diaphragms or cervical caps. I wear a cervical cap and love how well it works for me, but barriers can be high maintenance they take discipline to use correctly so they aren’t for everyone. Let us know how you're doing and what you decide, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
