Breakouts while on Ortho LO

Hi,

New to the boards here!

I just started taking Ortho Tri Lo on Halloween, so its only been about a week or so.

I am very familiar with all the possible side effects, etc. I have been doing my homework. *KNOCK ON WOOD* I haven't experienced any of them, except it seems like I am breaking out like crazy now. Is this normal? Will it go away? Its not bad breakouts, but just red bumps here and there, in places that I normally do NOT break out in.

Any hope?

i started it and broke out like crazy too where i had never had acne problems at all before. i gave it about 3 months to see if my body would stablize with it but it just got worse so i stopped taking it and my face is clear again. give it time or just stop taking it if you can't stand the breakouts.

I've been on OTC lo for the past 15 or so months. I had this also in the beginning but it cleared up wonderfully after I got through the inital 2-3 months of the pill. THeres hope :)

I had clear skin until I went on ortho tri-cyclen lo. It got progressively worse over the six months I was on it--by the end I was breaking out in places I never had before (like my neck). I decided I'd given it enough time and otc lo wasn't for me.

I just started Yasmin on Sunday, and my acne is clearing up beautifully. (I hope this lasts.)

hmm, well I am not experiencing any other side effects what-so-ever (thank goodness) so I don't want to switch and then get into something that makes me feel bad and have terrible effects.

Maybe I am just making myself breakout by worrying about it. Kind of like you make yourself sick if you keep thinking about being sick.

Doesn't sound like I am the only one having breakouts from Ortho Tricyclen Lo. I have been on it for 23 days now and I was off of my pills for a month and switched to OTCL and noticed that I was breaking out on my neck and my back of all places. I also suffer from dermatitis but this is the worse I have ever seen. I think my body is not fond of birth control period, but who knows. It has me very nervous with the breakouts that came from out of no where.

But just give it some time and see where it goes. I know I am learning that lesson very well. :-)

Hi celicacutie, welcome to the Birth Control board!

Most side effects typically occur and disappear within the first three cycles or so when starting a new pill. Breaking out can be a problem, probably only during the adjustment period but perhaps longer. It all depends on how your body chemistry reacts to the hormones in your pills. For most women any skin problems go away after their bodies adjust, so there is definitely hope. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck,
