Sorry in advance for tmi - Last month (before bcps) I noticed fertle type discharge pretty much all cycle. My doc said it was an estrogen surge. Will bcps help that or make it worse? Also I have noticed the same type of discharge again this month (on my first pack of pills). Again, pretty much the entire cycle. Is it normal to have fertle type discharge while on bcps? I thought if you weren't ovulating, you wouldn't have the strecthy, fertile stuff (sorry). Thanks.

Birth control can affect your cervical mucus by making it thicker and often times more plentiful - something along the lines of trapping the sperm as a first line of defense. This could be what you`re experiencing.

If you`re concerned about continued ovulation, that`s pretty much very unlikely if you`ve taken your pills correctly and consistently every day. One way that some women have learned to trust their lack of ovulation while on the pill is to chart their basal body temperatures. Every morning, before you get out of bed, take your body temperature. In the days leading up to and during ovulation, you have a spike in body temperature; however, while on birth control, your temperature should remain relatively constant. This really works best if you go to bed at the same time every night, get up at the same time, and don`t have any disturbances during the night like frequently getting up, waking up, etc...

If you`re concerned about still ovulating while on the pill, you could always check with your doctor! A little call never hurt. :)

Hi mykids2002, welcome!

For some women some BCPs can dry them up, for others it can make their discharge more abundant. If you have been taking your pills correctly you should not be ovulating and should be well protected. If you began to notice the discharge prior to starting BCPs and still notice it this cycle it could be caused by something entirely unrelated to your pills. There are conditions of the cervix that can cause heavy and sustained production of cm during your cycle. If your cm continues to be heavy you might want to talk with your doctor again and see what s/he says. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck,

Thanks you all. Guess I'm just a little paranoid. Taking my temp would be great, but I have 3 little ones and am always up at night! LOL!!! I will contact my doc if this continues next month.

Thanks again.
