Switching from the pill to an IUD?

Hi...

I am interested in getting an IUD. From my research, the Mirena seems to be the best option for me. I have been taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen for seven years and was wondering what if any problems/whatever people have had in switching BC methods? Also, it seems that insertion is the worst part. How long have most of you had irregular periods/spotting following insertion? Also, have you had the benefit of no periods? I am just trying to find out the menstrual benefits from people who have experienced them.

Sorry for all of the questions and thank you all,

Dawn

I went from a pill (micronor) to an IUD...I had irregular/heavier periods for the first 3-4 months after getting it put in....after that they got lighter and shorter each month.to now where I basicly spot a few days if I get a period.I've had it over a year now and have gone from using a double pack of kotex overnights pads to just a few pantiliners each month.

I didn't have any problems switching to an IUD. Insertion wasn't bad at all, and even if it had been, it was over in seconds. I had some cramping for a couple days. My first period after getting the Mirena IUD was extremely light, nothing more than spotting really. My periods since have been the same, I'm still hoping that I won't have them at all, but I don't mind them so much now as I did before. They used to be heavy, and now I barely notice them at all.

Hi...

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I am going to talk to my doctor tomorrow and get more information about the IUDs.

Thanks again,

Dawn
